Fame and fortune may be entirely new for South African hit-maker Master KG, but he’s spending his recently-acquired wealth in a manner which we’d all come to expect. The man behind the monster tune that is Jerusalema has had a little jaunt down to the Ferrari dealership, leaving with a new set of wheels on Wednesday.
How many views has Jerusalema got?
Master KG has, unequivocally, hit the big time with his feel-good anthem. The upbeat, mellow tones and soothing lyrics have proved to be the perfect antidote to these times of strife and worry. For three minutes a time, Jerusalema has the power to detach us from reality – while simultaneously propelling our homegrown musician into the stratosphere.
Jerusalema has been everywhere. Literally everywhere. It’s enjoying mainstream airtime in both the UK and US, and earlier this week, it passed 150 million views on YouTube. As we discovered last week, even Cristiano Ronaldo is a fan, after the soccer star shared the song on his Instagram. But does it get better than actual, presidential approval?
This Heritage Day is going to be a memorable one for Master KG. Cyril Ramaphosa himself has been repeating his calls for South Africans to celebrate their diverse culture by performing the dance routine that goes alongside the song. As a big fan of Jerusalema, Ramaphosa again sang the praises of this local artist for ‘celebrating South African culture’ with his work.
Master KG buys himself a Ferrari
Yes, warm words are nice. But they can’t exactly match up to the fierce purrs of a revving Ferrari engine, can they? Master KG has been splashing the hard-earned cash on a luxury item all for himself. And do you know what? Fair play to him. These are the fruits born from hard-work and terrific natural talent – and it’ll be some time before that grin leaves his face.
Here’s where the Jerusalema cash is going…
