Cases in SA increase by 845, deaths rise by 115

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, on Monday 7 September, announced that the confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa have risen to 639 362. This is an increase of 845, as the total number of confirmed cases stood at 638 517 on Sunday 6 September. 

Mkhize announced an updated death toll of 15 004. This is an increase of 115 as it stood at 14 889 on Sunday 6 September. 

“Regrettable, we report 115 more COVID-19-related deaths; 25 from KwaZulu-Natal, five from Gauteng, 12 from the Eastern Cape, seven from the Free state, 10 from the North West, 13 from the Western Cape and 43 from Limpopo”

A total of 3 808 949 tests have been conducted to date with 8 759 new tests reported. There have been 566 555 recoveries thus far, translating to a recovery rate of 88.6%. 

LATEST COVID-19 CASES BY PROVINCE AS OF MONDAY 7 SEPTEMBER

The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been detected in each province as of Monday: 

  • Eastern Cape – 86 868 cases
  • Free State – 39 986 cases; 
  • Gauteng – 21 3087 cases; 
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 114 904 cases; 
  • Limpopo – 137 69 cases; 
  • Mpumalanga – 25 125 cases; 
  • North West – 26 294 cases; 
  • Northern Cape – 12 085 cases; and 
  • Western Cape – 107 244 cases
  • Unknown – 0 cases.

This comes to a total of 639 362 confirmed cases. 

COVID-19 DEATH TOLL BY PROVINCE AS OF MONDAY

The following confirmed COVID-19-related deaths have been detected in each province as of Monday: 

  • Eastern Cape – 2 998 deaths;
  • Free State – 792 deaths;
  • Gauteng – 3 818 deaths;
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 2 319 deaths;
  • Limpopo – 257 deaths;
  • Mpumalanga – 416 deaths;
  • North West – 285 deaths; 
  • Northern Cape – 145 deaths;
  • Western Cape – 3 974 deaths. 

LATEST RECOVERIES BY PROVINCE 

Mkhize announced the latest COVID-19 recoveries as follows: 

  • Eastern Cape – 82 842 recoveries;
  • Free State – 27 129 recoveries;
  • Gauteng – 187 987 recoveries;
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 102 318 recoveries;
  • Limpopo – 12 874 recoveries;
  • Mpumalanga – 23 766 recoveries;
  • North West – 21 530 recoveries;
  • Northern Cape – 8 933 recoveries; and
  • Western Cape – 99 176 recoveries.

COVID-19 ACTIVE CASES 

  • Eastern Cape – 1 028 active cases;
  • Free State – 120 65 active cases;
  • Gauteng – 21 282 active cases;
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 10 267 active cases;
  • Limpopo – 638 active cases;
  • Mpumalanga – 943 active cases;
  • North West – 4 479 active cases;
  • Northern Cape – 3 007 active cases; and
  • Western Cape – 4 094 active cases.
